Mapping:

Finding and Mapping Medicine or Food Sources

Goal

Learners will be able to create their own maps of their lands, and create a legend and icons using Sketchnoting to inform their learning.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:

  1. Sketch-note
  2. Create a map of their topography
  3. Create a legend and icons for medicines or food sources of the area

Prior Knowledge & Learner Profile

The learners are advanced beginner  language learners, or in Grade 4 or 5. 

  1. Learners will need to have some knowledge of the place, and the names of some of the medicines or food.
  2. Learners will need to be familiar with medicines and food sources.

Delivery

  1. Beginning / Introduction: Introduce mapping 
    1. Share my map made using sketch-noting
    2. Show a map with a legend
  2. Have students with pencils and paper and asked them to create icons for medicines or food sources
    1. Example legend
    2. Icons

      3. Walk around the land and show how to map and use icons.

Evaluation

  • Learners evaluation: learners submit their work.
